Finn Sebastian Aho, top-line center of the Carolina Hurricanes, believes his team is ready for further NHL success.

After two losses, the Hurricanes responded with a nice road win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Canes have 16 wins in 27 games this season.

This is what Seabass had to say in New York after the game against the Rangers…

Last season, after barely making the Playoffs, the Hurricanes played a great spring. A repeat in 2020?

We played so well and set the bar high last year. We showed we’re capable of a deep playoff run. However, we couldn’t play on a high enough level to win the Stanley Cup. Our minimum target this year is to not be one of the last teams to secure a playoff spot. We aim to be a team that can make a deep run. Last year was good, but only increased our hunger for success.

The New York Rangers (on Wednesday) quickly went three goals up – what happened?

In a nutshell: bad start, but otherwise the game was OK. It’s hard to come back after being three goals down in this league. We had our chances and gained some momentum in 2nd and 3rd periods.

It wasn’t about our work ethic, we gave our everything. We just couldn’t create enough quality chances. There was some line juggling–we tried to get some extra energy and create different kinds of threats. We are playing well with Teuvo Teravainen and Andrei Svechnikov.

Former Hurricanes coach Bill Peters was in hot water (and later resigned as Calgary coach) – how did you get along with him?

He was the coach who let me play my first NHL game. I have nothing else to comment.

How about NY Rangers rookie Kaapo Kakko? How do you feel he’s doing in the NHL?

It’s great to see yet another Finn become a top draft pick. New York expects a lot from him, and he’s shown he can play well. I’m always happy to see a fellow Finn succeed. We’ve played twice against each other but haven’t been on the ice at the same time very often. At least in the games against us, he’s been real good.

You’ve lived in the USA for a few years already. There’s no Thanksgiving in Finland, but is the holiday meaningful to you?

It does have a meaning to me. This year I’ll enjoy a traditional American Thanksgiving dinner (for the 1st time). I’ll probably have no time to celebrate in full, since we play the Predators on Friday. Anyway: good food on the table, hanging out with the team, not bad!

Sebastian Aho has played in all 27 games this season. He has collected 13 goals and 22 points.
